TIP FOR JOURNALISTS #1 - Use Google Maps To Check Distances

If you are a subseditor or a copy editor, not knowing certain localities can be a problem For instance, the other day, one of my colleagues asked me how far is Merang from Marang in the state of Terengganu. I said I dont know but roughly we could check it together and establish the validity of some facts in the story he was clearing. I asked him to go to maps.google.com and search for Marang, Terengganu. Then, within that search results, seek the distance from Marang from Merang. And in less than 2 minutes, he had what he wanted. Using tools such as Google Map can make editing jobs easier. Watch this space as I give you more tips.
