IE8 Slow To Load Fix

Do you run IE8 on XP? Chances are that you might come to a point that it takes over 15s to load the application. I found a tech sheet that says you can overcome the problem by going to Command Prompt and insert regsvr32 actxprxy.dll command.

To do this, go to START and click RUN and type in cmd.

After the DOS black dialogue box jumps up, type in this: regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and hit enter. A dialogue box will jump up and say that the operation is successful.

Restart and your IE8 should work like a dream.

Hi, this is Kate with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team. If you don't feel comfortable or don't have the expertise to modify your registry (it's not recommended for people who don't know what they're doing), try managing your add-ons. In IE, go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’. Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help your Internet run faster. Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time (i.e. tool bars).
Hope this helps!

Thanks Kate, your comments are noted with thanks.
Readers, take note. This is also another way to making IE run faster if you feel you are unsure of modifying your registry.

That's right, most add-ons are just extra baggage on IE8 which one hardly uses. Trouble with most users is that they like every "new toys" put up for display. Just be pragmatic. Use something when the need arises, otherwise stay out of it.
